Here’s the video! A time lapse of Floating Girl.
1. I filmed this with Photobooth, so the quality is kind of lame.
2. I will recruit someone to film the next one so it won’t be lame.
3. There will be watercolor in the next one!

Drawing stuff. For those of you who have asked, I use Winsor & Newton colored inks and indian ink, although I also like Speedball indian ink. I use Speedball drawing pens, the ones with the changeable nibs. They might look all fancy, but they are affordable and readily available in major art stores!

Here’s another time lapse video. This one shows the watercoloring part of this piece. The lighting was not very good at all, but I hope you can at least see how I work with the paint. I used three different brushes, each a different size.
I suppose what I would point out is that I use the water just as much as I use the paint, and I apply the paint on damp paper and then just let the pigment do what it wants. I try not to fuss with it too much!
Those are Prang watercolors by the way.

Work in progress. This is taking a really long time for some reason. Painting alone has taken about four albums. I think. Do you ever measure your work in albums?
This is an old drawing (2005!), but I wanted to show it to you. People often ask me how I developed my style, and I say that I “stole” from my favorite artists. This is an example of that, I think. If you are familiar with Kay Nielsen, then you will recognize many elements in this drawing as his, even though the illustration as a whole—its composition and subject matter—is my creation.
Eventually I just sort of forgot to “steal” and each element evolved into something different, something mine.

We’re working on something for D/G, a little animated music project. I think we’re being a bit ambitious with this, so it might take a while to actually finish, but I couldn’t help sharing these pics. We filmed ink dispersing on paper to incorporate into what will mostly be a series of stills set to music. Don’t want to give away too much yet!
Here’s a little progress shot of a project I’m working on for D/G. I just can’t decide what should be burrowing in those holes… A penny for your thoughts?
More progress on my part of a D/G collaboration (that’s going to take a million years to finish, I think, but that’s ok).
A couple days ago I asked what should be burrowing in those holes in the ground, and you guys gave me some great answers! Click here and scroll down to read them. Star-nosed moles came up a couple of times, so I think I’ll keep that one in the bottom hole, even though Dave thought they were gross once we looked at photos of them. I think animal-type suggestions fit our project the best, but I’m going to refer back to the other ones for inspiration in the future. You guys are the best!
