Rise

The band Wayfarer is a project spearheaded by a friend of ours. The Seattle band repurposes old hymns by setting them to new melodies. Whether or not your beliefs are aligned with those of traditional Protestant hymns, it’s hard to deny the poetry of the lyrics, and something about this pop arrangement—at least for me—brought to the forefront the hymn’s purity of emotion that might otherwise remain inaccessible to modern listeners. It’s an interesting project I’ll be keeping an eye on.

Above is Wayfarer’s first music video. Nice work Dan, et al.!

Son Lux | We Are Rising | “Leave the Riches”

I’ve been waiting for a rainy day to post this.

Hills | Hills LP | “Reef Retreat”

Is it summer yet?

My brain just exploded. Music video for Björk’s song “Mutual Core”, directed by Andrew Thomas Huang.

Django Django | Django Django | “Default”

Soap&Skin | Lovetune for Vacuum | “Thanatos”

Active Child | Curtis Lane | “I’m In Your Church At Night”

From the album Mutual Spirits, featuring both Mutual Benefit and the Holy Spirits.

It’s all about how you’re putting what you do together. The elements you’re using don’t matter. Purity of human expression and experience is not confined to guitars, to tubes, to turntables, to microchips. There is no right way, no pure way of doing it. There’s just doing it.
— Bruce Springsteen in his keynote address at SXSW. It’s a great listen.

“Little Man” / Ritual Union / Little Dragon

Listening to this album constantly. I want to be Yukimi Nagano when I grow up.

Chad VanGaalen / “Peace on the Rise”

A trippy video for a rainy day.

I’ve been listening to this mixtape a lot since it was posted here. Click the picture to download it for yourself and give it a listen. What have you been listening to these days?

I love The Ronettes. Ronnie Spector, the wall of sound, the beehives…

“Be My Baby”

Bed of Lavender (Rainy Day) by David Rose is perfect. Is it raining where you are?

➜ Let's Get That

On this album cover, one person is my husband, one is Dave (bro-in-law/sometimes collaborator), and one is my other brother-in-law. Who’s who (oh and since you’re there anyway give it a listen and/or buy it!)?
