Leaving town tomorrow for 1-2 weeks, so my already scant posting will be basically nonexistent until May. In the meantime, here’s something from my archive. I made this in 2012 for a collaborative project that was never finished, but I still really like it.
See you in May!

Hot damn, you guys! Jacob finished one of my unfinished drawings and I love how he transformed it into something amazing. Find more of his work at his blog.

A little collaborative experiment I did with Gabrielle Rose.

An inky cap mushroom. When I was little, I’d always find ink cap mushrooms on the side of my friend’s house, and I thought they were really cool, all drippy and gooey.

Watercolor, india ink, gold gel pen. 9x12”.

I made this watercolor circle a long time ago and finally decided to put something in the middle of it—a mouse.

Watercolor, ink.

Ghosttthead's illustrations are always great, but this one in particular almost made me laugh out loud just now.

I was working on this back in April and now I can finally share this album art I did for the band Fialta

Fialta is an indie pop band from Central California, and I definitely recommend checking out their Soundcloud and Facebook page. You can preorder this CD (physical or digital) from their shop. It’s the perfect summer soundtrack.

I did the artwork—front and back cover and watercolor textures on the inside—and August Kreowski did the layout. (You can grab the art from the album’s cover as a print in my shop.) The band was a pleasure to work with, and I couldn’t be happier with how this turned out!

Top: Another page from my Spera: Glass Flowers chapter, with text by Olivier Pichard

Bottom: At one point I arranged the illustrations I had finished to evaluate where I was when suddenly cat.

I hear the next chapter will go up soon, so now’s a good time to start from the beginning and follow the story. (Read the original post about this project. Visit Spera author Josh Tierney’s tumblr.)

Above: Working on chapter 15 of Spera: Glass Flowers (written by Josh Tierney).

Below: Page 4 of chapter 15.

It was fun and instructive to return to a more controlled illustrative style for this project. Using smooth hot-pressed watercolor paper helped achieve clear lines and colors. I also remembered to do light colors before dark for once!

My chapter of Spera: Glass Flowers is up! This online collaborative comic is part of the larger world of Spera, created by Josh Tierney. A few years ago I made some illustrations for the original collaboration, and it was really fun to return to it! I am especially honored to have my work alongside some other fabulous comic artist geniuses who have illustrated previous chapters. If you haven’t read these comics or graphic novels yet, I recommend that you do—Josh is an amazing writer and creator of worlds!

Part 15 of Spera: Glass Flowers is now online!
This chapter features the fairy tale art of Gabrielle Rose, with lettering by Olivier Pichard.

A little nature watercolor piece that I made as a donation for a silent auction at my city’s zoo. Proceeds go to elephant research (but I’m terrible at drawing elephants, hence bunnies).

Watercolor, ink. 9x12”.
